Venture Global LNG Inc. has informed Edison SPA that it should not expect contract LNG deliveries from Venture Global’s 10-million tonne/year Calcasieu Pass LNG plant until at least April 2025. Calcasieu Pass started exporting cargoes in March 2022, was producing at capacity by September of that year, and reached what Edison described as substantial completion in November 2022.

The two companies signed a 20-year contract for LNG cargos in September 2017. Despite that contract, Venture Global has not commenced deliveries to Edison, alleging technical problems at the plant.

Calcasieu Pass has produced, exported, and sold 355 cargos to the higher-priced spot market and generated more than $20 billion in revenues, Edison said. As a consequence of Venture Global’s failure to begin deliveries, Edison is in international arbitration against Venture Global for breach of contract.

Other contract customers including Shell PLC, bp PLC, and Repsol SA are also in arbitration with Venture Global seeking either the ability to begin loading or monetary compensation.
