Venture Global: Commercial operations at Calcasieu Pass to begin mid-April

Feb. 17, 2025
The company expressed gratitude to various parties for facility completion, repairs, that “now allow us to supply our long-term customers with the full 20-year contract term of the lowest-cost, clean LNG as promised under our contracts.”

Venture Global expects to begin commercial operations at its Calcasieu Pass plant, sited in Cameron Parish, La., on Apr. 15, 2025.

The company, in a Feb. 17 release, said it has notified its long-term customers of the plant's expected commercial operation date (COD).

Venture Global said COD was expected “in under 68 months from its August 2019 final investment decision, despite substantial impacts including two hurricanes, the COVID-19 pandemic, and major unforeseen manufacturing issues, such as with the Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs) forming part of the facility’s power island.”

Certain customers have been in arbitration, citing failure to begin contracted deliveries from the 10-million tonne/year plant.

According to Edison SPA, which signed a 20-year contract for LNG cargos from Calcasieu Pass in September 2017, the plant began exporting cargos in March 2022, was producing at capacity by September 2022, and reached ‘substantial completion’ in November 2022 (OGJ Online, Feb. 7, 2022; Oct. 16, 2024).

In its release Feb. 17, Venture Global expressed gratitude to Calcasieu Pass construction and completion teams “who tirelessly worked to safely complete our facilities, to our vendor teams who provided invaluable support for the necessary repairs, and to our government regulators, including the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, for their oversight and cooperation.”

The efforts, Venture Global said, “now allow us to supply our long-term customers with the full 20-year contract term of the lowest-cost, clean LNG as promised under our contracts.”
