Woodside Energy Scarborough Pty. Ltd. has let a construction contract to Saipem for a pipeline to connect Scarborough gas field with the onshore plant in Carnarvon basin, offshore Western Australia.
Scarborough gas resource will be developed through new offshore infrastructure connected by a 430-km export trunkline to a second LNG train (Pluto Train 2) at the existing Pluto LNG onshore plant. First cargo is expected to be delivered in 2026.
Work assigned to Saipem includes coating, transportation, and installation of the trunkline at a maximum water depth of 1,400 m, including fabrication and installation of line structures and the pipeline end termination in 950 m of water. Offshore operations are planned to start mid-2023 and will be mainly conducted by the Castorone vessel.
Woodside is operator of the Scarborough joint venture (73.5%) with partner BHP Petroleum (Australia) Pty. Ltd. (26.5%). Woodside and BHP sanctioned the project in 2021 (OGJ Online, Nov. 23, 2021).
