ADX Energy to flow test Austrian discovery
ADX Energy Ltd. will begin flow test operations at the Welchau-1 discovery in the ADX-AT II exploration license in Upper Austria mid-October based on successful recovery of hydrocarbons.
The Welchau-1 well targeted reservoirs encountered in the nearby, downdip Molln-1 discovery well which tested condensate rich gas in 1989 (OG Online March 11, 2024).
Welchau-1 intersected Triassic age carbonate reservoirs Reifling (128 m), Steinalm (118 m), and Guttenstein (111 m) which are considered promising for testing and ongoing appraisal, the company said. The well was suspended on Mar. 28, 2024, for future well testing after running and cementing 7-in. casing down to the well TD at 1,733 m MD.
Data recovered from the well included hydrocarbon shows, wellbore inflows during drilling, formation cuttings, petrophysical borehole log data, formation fluid sampling, and formation coring. Pressurized formation fluid sample chambers recovered small amounts of liquid hydrocarbons (gas condensate to very light oil with 43.6° API gravity).
The appraisal may hold a mean prospective resource of 85 MMboe. Although the Molln-1 well tested rich condensate gas, ADX says Welchau-1 is more likely to be a light oil and associated gas find rather than a liquid-rich gas discovery, the company said.
ADX is operator and holds a 75% economic interest in the Welchau exploration area.
