SAPREF restarting South African refinery following power outage
March 16, 2018
South African Petroleum Refineries (Pty.) Ltd. (SAPREF), a joint venture of Shell Refining SA and BP Southern Africa, is in the process of restarting its 8.5 million-tonne/year refinery in Durban, South Africa, following a power outage in the greater Durban area on Mar. 14 that forced a shutdown of the facility.
Teams are working to prepare the refinery for startup within a few days, but flaring would be visible from the refinery during the restart period, SAPREF said in a post to its official Facebook account.
The operator has yet to confirm official restart of refinery operations or details regarding the shutdown’s impact to production at the site.
