Perenco starts production at Gabon LPG plant
Perenco Oil & Gas Gabon (POGG) has opened its 15,000-tonne/year (tpy) LPG plant in Batanga, Gabon. The plant will supply the domestic market with enough LPG to meet 35% of demand.
Completion of the plant was part of the second phase of POGG’s gas development project in Gabon, which also included infrastructure to deliver natural gas to a 20-Mw powerplant to be built in Mayumba, Gabon. This plant could be expanded to 100 Mw.
POGG plans to bring another 25,000 tpy of LPG—primarily butane—to market in 2026 when its 0.7-million tpy Cap Lopez LNG plant enters service. The company reached final investment decision on the plant earlier this year (OGJ Online, Feb. 16, 2023).
LNG production will be exported. Perenco acquired the Cap Lopez oil terminal, at which the LNG plant is being developed, from TotalEnergies SE in 2021.
