TPDC awards Tanzania gas pipeline EPC to Chinese firms

Tanzania Petroleum Development Corp. has awarded the contract for the 35-km gas pipeline from Ntorya field to the 210-MMcfd Madimba gas processing plant.

Tanzania Petroleum Development Corp. (TPDC) has awarded China Petroleum Pipeline and China Petroleum Technology & Development Corp. the engineering, procurement, and construction contract for the 35-km gas pipeline from Ntorya field to the 210-MMcfd Madimba gas processing plant.

Aminex PLC, TPDC, and ARA Petroleum Tanzania (APT) Ltd. are developing Ntorya, with APT as operator, and in third-quarter 2024 were granted a license to do so by Tanzania’s Ministry of Energy. The field contains 1.8 tcf of gas proven by two wells which produced 20 MMscfd each during testing.

According to a gas sales agreement signed with TPDC in January 2024, APT expects to produce 40-60 MMscfd in the first year of production, with an increase to 140 MMscfd within a few years (OGJ Online, Sept. 11, 2024).

Local media report an updated unaudited contingent resource estimate of 3.45 tcf gas initially in place (GIIP), with an internally aggregated block total Pmean unrisked GIIP potential of 16.4 tcf and a risked Pmean GIIP potential of 6.9 tcf.
