Intensity, Rainbow to develop in-state North Dakota gas pipeline
Intensity Infrastructure Partners LLC, Tulsa, Okla., and Rainbow Energy Center LLC, Bismarck, ND, have partnered to develop the previously announced Intensity gas pipeline from Bakken shale to eastern North Dakota. The pipeline will move associated gas production from Williston basin for end-use in North Dakota.
The project will be completed in two phases:
• Phase I includes 136 miles of 36-in. OD natural gas transmission pipeline, with a capacity of 1.1 bcfd, originating near Watford City, ND, and terminating near Washburn, ND.
• Phase II will extend the pipeline 208 miles from Washburn to Casselton, ND, with a 30-in, 430-MMcfd segment.
Phase I’s target in-service date is July 2029, but the companies say this could be accelerated based on market demand and permitting progress. In anticipation of additional growth, the pipeline will reserve capacity for future, unannounced projects along its route.
A successful open season was held earlier this year for Phase II, which has an estimated in-service date of Jan. 1, 2030 (OGJ Online, Apr. 18, 2025).
