Cedar LNG selects pipeline construction company

April 9, 2025
Planning for construction of the pipeline is under way including hiring, safety orientation, and site preparation, with Cedar expecting work to begin second-quarter 2025.

Cedar LNG, a partnership between Haisla Nation and Pembina Pipeline Corp., has selected Ledcor Haisla LP (LHLP) to build the 400-MMcfd pipeline supplying natural gas to its 3.3-million tonne/year floating LNG (FLNG) plant in Kitimat, BC. This pipeline will draw its gas from the TC Energy Corp.-operated 2.1-bcfd Coastal GasLink system.

Planning for construction of the pipeline is under way including hiring, safety orientation, and site preparation, with Cedar expecting work to begin second-quarter 2025. LHLP will be responsible for direct hiring, with preference given to Haisla and other Indigenous members for jobs and subcontracting opportunities, subject to availability and qualifications.

Since Cedar LNG took positive final investment decision (FID) last year, the marine terminal site and pipeline route have been cleared and design optimization advanced (OGJ Online, June 25, 2024).

The company expects marine terminal site construction also to start this quarter, with overall peak activity anticipated in 2026. Samsung Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. and Black & Veatch are building the FLNG plant, with a targeted in-service date of late 2028.
