bp starts LNG production at Greater Tortue Ahmeyim
bp started first liquified natural gas (LNG) production at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) LNG project offshore Mauritania & Senegal, said partner Kosmos Energy in a Feb. 10 release.
On Dec. 31, 2024, gas from the first phase of GTA started to flow from wells to the floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel as part of the commissioning process (OGJ Online, Jan 2, 2025). At the FPSO, gas is being processed to remove condensate, water and impurities ahead of delivery to the floating LNG vessel for liquefaction.
Gas has now been delivered to the Golar LNG Ltd.’s 2.3-million tonne/year (tpy) floating LNG (FLNG) vessel, and liquefaction has commenced (OGJ Online, Jan. 22, 2025). bp has given notice to the offtaker (bp gas marketing ltd.) for an LNG carrier to arrive later this quarter to export the first LNG cargo.
GTA is 120 km offshore in water depths of 2,850 m and holds estimated gas resources of 15 tcf. FLNG Gimi is contracted to be on station at GTA for 20 years. The development’s 2.5-3.0 million tpy Phase 2 will use a gravity-based structure for siting its liquefaction plant.
bp operates GTA (56%) on behalf of partners Kosmos Energy (27%), Petrosen (10%), and SMH (7%).
