The Port Authority of the North-Central Adriatic Sea has hired Acciona, in consortium with RCM Construzioni, to build the breakwater protecting Snam SPA’s 5-billion cu m/year (bcmy) Ravenna LNG terminal. The 880-m breakwater will consist of a vertical dock, built with concrete caissons 8.5 km off Punta Marina, south of the Port of Ravenna.

Snam expects the terminal to begin operations first-quarter 2025, using the 170,000-cu m floating storage and regasification unit BW Singapore, now renamed Italis LNG. The company says Ravenna LNG will increase Italy’s regasification capacity to 28 bcmy, roughly 45% of its 2023 natural gas demand.

Acciona plans to complete the project in 24 months at a cost of €216 million ($229 million).
