Venture Global requests in-service authorization for certain Plaquemines LNG Phase 2 infrastructure
Venture Global Plaquemines LNG LLC and Venture Global Gator Express LLC have requested authorization from the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) by Apr. 19, 2024, to place Phase 2 infrastructure of the Plaquemines LNG project into service on or after Apr. 20, 2024.
The Phase II infrastructure is mechanically complete and will be ready to flow gas prior to that requested in-service date, Venture Global Inc. said in its Apr. 16 filing.
The start of natural gas transportation on the Gator Express pipeline system and delivery to Venture Global’s 20-million tonne/year (tpy) Plaquemines LNG plant in Louisiana is a critical milestone in the project’s overall schedule, the company continued. The initial gas supply is needed for Plaquemines LNG to commission the terminal’s power generation infrastructure.
The Phase II infrastructure consists of:
- An 11.7-mile, 42-in. OD pipeline segment originating at the TETCO platform that will serve as the interconnection point between the pipeline systems of Gator Express, Texas Eastern Transmission LP, and Columbia Gulf Transmission LLC and ending at the LNG plant.
- An interconnect with Texas Eastern’s pipeline system on TETCO platform.
- Two meter stations, one at the LNG plant and a second on the TETCO platform.
- Three mainline valves.
- Pig launcher infrastructure at the TETCO platform and pig receiver infrastructure at the LNG plant.
Venture Global LNG Inc. took FID on Phase 2 of its Plaquemines LNG plant in 2023 (OGJ Online, Mar. 14, 2023).
The Gator Express Pipeline lies entirely in Plaquemines Parish, La., and consists essentially of two co-located pipeline laterals to transport gas to the new LNG export terminal on the west bank of the Mississippi River being constructed by Gator Express’ affiliate Venture Global Plaquemines LNG LLC. Each segment is designed to deliver about 1.9 bcfd.
