New Fortress Energy has commissioned its 6-million tonnes/year (tpy) Barcarena LNG terminal in Pará, Brazil with the Energos Celsius floating storage regasification unit (FSRU) on-site.

The LNG terminal sits at the mouth of the Amazon River and serves as the sole natural gas supply source in the state of Pará and northern Brazil. It will receive LNG from the FSRU. Gas will be transported through a 3-km pipeline to the distribution system of Companhia de Gás do Pará.

The 160,000 sq m converted floating storage and regasification unit has a nominal regasification capacity of 750 – 1,000 MMscfd.

By end-2024, Brazil is expected to have eight LNG terminals, all FSRUs, with a total installed regasification capacity over 51 bcm/year.
