Inpex Corp. has awarded McDermott International Ltd. an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) project after McDermott successfully completed front-end engineering and design (FEED) services for a booster compression module for the Inpex-operated Ichthys LNG development. The module will be added to the Ichthys Explorer central processing platform, off the northwest coast of Western Australia.
This is the third Ichthys contract McDermott has won after successfully completing FEED services. McDermott's EPC scope involves a booster compression module which will move production from the gas reservoir to central processing. McDermott is currently undertaking umbilicals, risers, and flowlines as part of expanding the existing offshore infrastructure.
As much as 1.657 bcfd of processed gas travels 890 km via 42-in. OD subsea pipeline to Ichthys’s onshore 8.9-million tonne/year LNG plant near Darwin, Northern Territory. Most condensate is transferred to the Ichthys Venturer floating production, storage, and offloading vessel, with peak production of 100,000 b/d.
Ichthys began production in July 2018 and has a 40-year expected operating life. It is estimated to contain 12 tcf of natural gas and 500 million bbl of condensate.
