Maersk Oil Qatar AS has marked significant progress on its fast-track Al Shaheen oil field development off Qatar.

The company, a unit of Danish firm Maersk Olie & Gas AS, recently put out for bid the engineering, procurement, and construction of permanent gas-gathering facilities in Al Shaheen field. Deadline for bids is Nov. 29.

Among those short-listed for the gas project are South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd., Abu Dhabi's National Petroleum Construction Co. (NPCC), and U.A.E.-based J. Ray McDermott Middle East.

The project entails installation of a new low-pressure compression module on the existing BA and CA oil satellite platforms. A new platform will be installed within the existing central processing complex.

The field is producing 100,000 b/d of crude oil via temporary facilities, with associated gas being flared.

This latest tender follows Maersk's award last year of about $200 million worth of contracts for the installation of permanent oil and gas production platforms and related facilities in Al Shaheen field. NPCC recently completed installation of the deck for an integrated wellhead/processing platform under one of those contracts (see photo, this page).

The permanent oil production platforms are slated for start-up by yearend.
