Devon Energy names Gaspar CEO to succeed retiring Muncrief

Devon Energy has appointed Clay Gaspar to succeed Rick Muncrief as president and CEO in 2025. 

Devon Energy Corp. has appointed Clay Gaspar to succeed Rick Muncrief as president and chief executive officer in 2025. 

Muncrief will retire from the company effective Mar. 1, 2025, at which time Gaspar, currently Devon’s chief operating officer, will take on the new roles, in addition to serving as a member of the board.

In September 2020, Devon Energy and WPX Energy Inc. agreed to merge in a $2.56-billion deal (OGJ Online, Sept. 28, 2020). Rick Muncrief previously served as chief executive officer of WPX prior to the combination and was named chief executive of Devon upon completion of the merger.
