ExxonMobil makes leadership changes
ExxonMobil has appointed Dan Ammann as president of ExxonMobil Upstream Company to succeed Liam M. Mallon, who will retire effective Feb. 1, 2025. Mallon, who has been president of ExxonMobil Upstream Company since 2022, joined the company in 1990 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Ammann joined ExxonMobil in 2022 as president of the company’s Low Carbon Solutions business. He had previously been chief executive officer of Cruise, which is majority-owned by General Motors, in 2018 and was appointed president of GM in 2014.
Ammann will continue as vice president, Exxon Mobil Corp.
In a LinkedIn post Dec. 3, Ammann said he's excited for the challenge. "Some might think that moving from Low Carbon Solutions to Upstream is surprising, but it’s not. Meeting the world’s energy demand is not an “either/or” proposition. It’s an “and” equation. One that requires both an increase in supply of safe, reliable, affordable energy AND a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions – and I will continue to focus on both."
Barry L. Engle has been appointed as president, Low Carbon Solutions, succeeding Ammann in that role, and as vice-president for Exxon Mobil Corp., effective Jan. 1, 2025.
Engle joined ExxonMobil in September 2024 with three decades of experience in the automotive industry, including General Motors where he was president of GM North America, GM’s largest business and, before that, president of GM International.
