Donald C. Templin has been named president of Marathon Petroleum Corp., effective July 1. He’s been president of the general partner of MPLX LP since January 2016.

Mike Hennigan will succeed Templin as president of MPLX's general partner, effective June 20. He has 35 years of industry experience, most recently as president and chief executive officer of Sunoco Logistics Partners LP starting in 2012 (OGJ Online, Nov. 21, 2016).

Templin joined MPC in June 2011 as senior vice-president and chief financial officer before being named executive vice-president, supply, transportation, and marketing in March 2015.

Before teaming with MPC, Templin was the managing partner of the audit practice for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP (PwC) in Georgia, Alabama, and Tennessee. While at PwC, he had more than 25 years of experience providing auditing and advisory services to private, public, and multinational companies. He joined PwC in Pittsburgh in 1984, eventually serving in London, Kazakhstan, and Baltimore before assuming his position in Atlanta in 2009.

In his new role, Templin will be located in Findlay, Ohio, and continue to report to Gary R. Heminger, Marathon Petroleum chairman, president, and chief executive officer.

Hennigan has held a variety of operations and leadership roles with increasing responsibility with Sunoco Logistics, including executive roles as president and chief operating officer and vice-president of business development. At Sunoco Inc., he also held the executive role of senior vice-president, supply, trading, sales, and transportation.

Hennigan will work from Findlay and report to Heminger, who also is chairman and chief executive officer of MPLX's general partner.
