Cheniere’s Corpus Christi LNG Stage 3 moves closer to in-service with FERC approval
Cheniere Energy is closer to exporting first cargoes from Stage 3 of its Corpus Christi LNG project in San Patricio and Nueces Counties, Tex., with Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) approval to transfer LNG from the plant to liquid storage infrastructure and then onto a tanker for export.
Stage 3 consists of seven midscale trains that will add about 10-million tonne/year (tpy), bringing the plant's total nominal capacity to 25-million tpy.
Cheniere plans to produce first LNG from Stage 3 by yearend.
FERC, in its Oct. 17 order, said it based its approval to begin service of the terminal supply line on staff inspections and review of new submittals from the company. The commission added that the approval “does not grant [Cheniere] the authority to construct, commission, or put into service other project facilities at the LNG terminal.”
Cheniere made a final investment decision (FID) on expansion in June 2022 and issued full notice to proceed with construction to Bechtel Corp.
