ExxonMobil Corp. has renewed Nigerian deepwater oil mining leases 133 and 138, for the Erha and Usan blocks, respectively. The 20-year renewals included extensions of PSC for the blocks with partner NNPC.

ExxonMobil Corp. last week renewed Nigerian deepwater oil mining leases (OML) 133 and 138, for the Erha and Usan blocks, respectively. The 20-year renewals included extensions of production sharing contracts (PSC) for the blocks with partner Nigerian National Petroleum Co. Ltd.

Esso Exploration and Production Nigeria (Deepwater) Ltd. will execute the renewed agreements, among the first to occur in the wake of Nigeria’s new Petroleum Industry Act.

Esso began Erha development drilling in water depths up to 1,750 m in November 2003, having been awarded its initial PSC in 1993. It streamed first oil in first-half 2006 via a 165,000 b/d floating production, storage, and offloading (FPSO) vessel.

Usan lies in 750-850 m of water and is also produced via FPSO.

Both fields are roughly 100 km offshore southeastern Nigeria.
