Petrobras lets well construction services contract for Buzios field offshore Brazil
Petrobras has let a contract to Baker Hughes for integrated well construction services on Búzios field in the Santos basin presalt, offshore Brazil. A contract value was not disclosed.
The integrated services project is set to start in first-half 2025 and will include drilling services, drill bits, wireline, cementing, wellbore clean up, fishing, remedial tools, fluids, services and geosciences. Baker Hughes will provide these services across three rigs over the course of the multi-year contract, the company said in a release Feb. 21.
Baker Hughes provided technology and equipment during the first phase of Búzios field development. In addition to providing drilling, completions, and wireline services, the service provider supplied water and gas manifolds and more than 240 km of flexible pipes, including production lines, gas lift, water injection, and gas injection flexible pipes for use in 2,000-m water depth.
It also supplied turbomachinery for 10 of the 11 FPSOs, including turbogenerators, motocompressors, and turbocompressors plus condition monitoring, detection, and fault protection on critical machines.
In fourth-quarter 2023, Petrobras' oil production in the presalt was 1.937 million b/d, 3.5% higher than in third-quarter 2023, the company said as part of its quarterly report. The increase was partially attributable to production ramp-up of the Almirante Barroso FPSO in Búzios field, along with increases in Itapu, Marlim, and Voador fields, in addition to fewer shutdowns compared with the previous quarter.
