Woodside Energy Group Ltd.’s Trion oil and gas project received approval from the Mexican Ministry for Energy for its social impact assessment.
Trion is a greenfield development that would represent the first oil production from Mexico’s deepwater. It is in the Gulf of Mexico at a water depth of 2,500 m, about 180 km off the Mexican coastline.
Trion will have a production capacity of 100,000 b/d and connect to a 950,000 bbl capacity floating storage and offloading vessel (OGJ Online, Jan. 8, 2024). First oil is targeted for 2028.
The social impact assessment, submitted in May 2023, provides a comprehensive view of the project and outlines the ways in which Woodside will manage social impacts.
Woodside is operator at Trion (60%) with partner PEMEX Exploración y Producción (40%).
