CNOOC discovers gas in Paleozoic buried hills
CNOOC Ltd. discovered gas at the Weizhou 10-5 oil and gas field in Beibu Gulf basin in the central part of the Bohai Sea at 30 m average water depth.
Exploration well WZ10-5-1Sa was drilled to about 4,840 m TD and encountered an oil and gas pay zone of 283 m. Test results indicate that the well produces about 13.2 MMscfd of natural gas and about 800 b/d of crude oil.
The operator described the discovery as 'significant' to natural gas exploration in the Paleozoic granite buried hills in Beibu Gulf basin.
