MedcoEnergi discovers hydrocarbons in South Sumatra
- The well targeted the Baturaja formation.
- MedcoEnergi will proceed with additional well testing and technical evaluations to further assess the potential size and commercial viability of the discovery.
PT Medco Energi Internasional Tbk, through its subsidiary PT Medco E & P Rimau, discovered hydrocarbons at the West Kalabau-1 exploration well in Rimau Block, South Sumatra, Indonesia.
The well was drilled to a total depth of about 3,220 ft targeting the proven Baturaja formation. Formation evaluation and initial analysis confirmed the presence of hydrocarbons, providing a strong basis for further development planning.
MedcoEnergi, together with SKK Migas, will proceed with additional well testing and technical evaluations to further assess the potential size and commercial viability of the discovery which will guide future development activities. SKK Migas oversees the management of upstream oil and gas business activities for the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
The South Sumatra Region comprises Rimau, South Sumatra, and Lematang blocks.
