GUPCO drills successful exploration well
Gulf of Suez Petroleum Co. (GUPCO) confirmed reserves with the East Crystal-1 exploratory well in an integrated concession area in the Gulf of Suez.
Initial testing of the 16-ft Hawara layer produced more than 2,000 b/d of crude oil and confirmed expected reserves of about 8 million bbl. The underlying honey layer beneath the Hawara formation which spans more than 100 ft has not yet been tested.
GUPCO plans to drill two additional wells which will add more than 5,000 bo/d.
The East Crystal-1 well is the second successful exploration well drilled using the latest seismic survey technology, the Ocean Bottom Node (OBN) seismic exploration, after the success of the S. El-Wasl-1 well.
GUPCO is operator of Idfu field in the Gulf of Suez and is a joint venture between Dragon Oil and the Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. (EGPC).
