Gran Tierra Energy Inc. made its seventh oil discovery in Ecuador, confirming the potential of Arawana-Zabaleta field.

Zabaleta-K1 is the fourth exploration well drilled in Chanangue block and was drilled over 4 km from the Arawana-J1 well drilled earlier this year (OGJ Online, Nov. 5, 2024). Gran Tierra ran and cemented production casing and perforated the Basal Tena oil zone over 21.5 ft of reservoir with 12.8 ft of net reservoir based on log evaluation.

A jet pump has produced oil at 1,105 b/d stabilized rate over 24 hours. Produced oil had 17° API gravity, 2% water cut, and 59 std cu ft/stock tank bbl gas-oil ratio.

The successful Zabaleta well test validates the proven Basal Tena geological model and supports the significant potential of the Arawana-Zabaleta productive trend.

The rig has been moved to drill the Zabaleta Oeste exploration well which was spud on Nov. 21, 2024, and marks fulfillment of the final exploration commitment in Chanangue block.

Gran Tierra is 100% owner and operator of Chanangue block.
