Shell Offshore Inc. let a floating production system (FPS) contract to Subsea 7 SA for the Sparta deepwater development in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The project involves the transportation and installation of an FPS at Garden Banks block 959 off the southeastern coast of Louisiana in 1,635 m of water.
Sparta is expected to reach a peak production of about 90,000 boe/d and has estimated discovered recoverable resource volume of 244 MMboe. Sparta will be Shell’s 15th deep-water host in the Gulf of Mexico and is scheduled to begin production in 2028 (OGJ Online, Dec. 19, 2023).
Subsea 7 values the contract at $50-150 million.
Shell Offshore Inc. is operator at Sparta (51%) with partner Equinor Gulf of Mexico LLC (49%).
