Woodside has advanced its Scarborough project in Western Australia with the completed installation of the project’s 433-km trunkline. The installation took around 12 months to complete.

When operational, the trunkline will transport gas from Scarborough field to the onshore Pluto LNG processing plant in Karratha on the Burrup Peninsula, where Woodside is currently constructing Pluto Train 2. The first three Pluto Train 2 modules for project arrived in Karratha early this year and are now installed on site (OGJ Online, Feb. 21, 2024).

The Scarborough project comprises Scarborough field and associated offshore and subsea infrastructure. The field lies in Carnarvon basin about 375 km off the coast of Western Australia and is estimated to contain more than 11 tcf of dry gas.

Development includes installation of a floating production unit (FPU) with eight wells drilled in the initial phase and 13 wells drilled over the life of the field.

Woodside executive vice-president and chief operating officer Australia Liz Westcott said the trunkline was a critical piece of infrastructure for the project and that the company will now focus on “executing the remaining project scopes to support the targeted first Scarborough LNG cargo in 2026.”

The Scarborough energy project is more than two-thirds complete and is set to supply up to 225 terajoules/day of domestic gas supply into the Western Australian market.
