bp lets contracts for US Gulf of Mexico Kaskida project
bp started engineering works to advance the Kaskida project in the US Gulf of Mexico.
The operator (100%) let contracts to Audubon Engineering Co. and EXMAR Offshore for work on the floating production unit (FPU). Audubon Engineering will complete topside engineering and design of the Kaskida FPU, while EXMAR Offshore will design the hull.
bp made a positive final investment decision (FID) late July to develop Keathley Canyon area project, which lies about 250 miles southwest of New Orleans, La. (OGJ Online, July 31, 2024).
The project will be bp’s first in the Gulf of Mexico to produce from reservoirs that will require well equipment with a pressure rating of up to 20,000 psi.
Kaskida, the operator's sixth hub in the US Gulf of Mexico, will feature a new FPU with capacity to produce 80,000 b/d from six wells in the first phase of development. Kaskida field has discovered recoverable resources currently estimated at around 275 MMboe from the initial phase. Production is expected to begin in 2029. Additional wells could be drilled in future phases, the operator said in July.
