Woodside Energy has let a pipe contract to Corinth Pipeworks for the deepwater Trion field in the Perdido Fold Belt in Mexican waters of the Gulf of Mexico, about 180 km off the Mexican coastline and 30 km south of the US-Mexico maritime border.

Corinth Pipeworks will manufacture and supply about 118 km of high frequency welded (HFW) steel pipes for the project. The scope of supply also includes the application of external coating and concrete weight coating.

The resource will be developed through a floating production unit (FPU) with an oil production capacity of 100,000 b/d. The FPU will be connected to a floating storage and offloading vessel with a capacity of 950,000 bbl of oil. First oil is targeted for 2028 (OGJ Online, March 14, 2024).

The field is a greenfield development which will be the first production site from Mexico’s deepwater with potential for future discoveries to be tied back to Trion’s infrastructure.

Woodside is operator at Trion (60%) with partner PEMEX Exploración y Producción (40%).
