HOUSTON, Apr. 28 -- A drillstem test of a well on the Te Giac Trang (TGT) structure on Block 16-1 off southern Vietnam confirmed the discovery of what SOCO International PLC, London, calls "a major oil field."
Hoang Long Joint Operating Co., in which SOCO Vietnam Ltd. holds a 28.5% working interest, operates Block 16-1 and plans further drilling.
During a drillstem test of the TGT-3X well, 40.5° gravity oil flowed at a maximum rate of 9,008 b/d and gas at 5.4 MMcfd from perforations of the Miocene Lower Bach Ho (LBH 5.2) at 2,827-2,887 m through an 88/64-in. choke.
Logs indicated about 68 m of net pay in the LBH 5.2 sand and about 6 m of net pay in the Lower Oligocene C interval, which wasn't tested.
The discovery well TGT-1X and earlier appraisal, TGT-2X, also encountered the LBH 5.2 interval (OGJ Online, Mar. 15, 2006). The TGT-3X was drilled 10 km south of the TGT-1X on a separate fault block.
SOCO said the TGT structure comprises five fault blocks extending over 15 km on a north-south trend within an 80 km long play fairway that extends along the eastern and southern portion of Block 16-1.
Soco said next drilling on the block will be of a structure on the L prospect 30 km south of the TGT-3X well. The Te Giac Vang 1X is expected to take 30 days to drill.
