Chevron starts production at Gulf of Mexico Anchor field
Chevron Corp. started oil and natural gas production from Anchor field in the deepwater US Gulf of Mexico.
Development of Anchor, which lies 225 km off the Louisiana coast, was launched in December 2019 and consists of a system of subsea wells connected to a semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU) with a production capacity of 75,000 b/d of oil and 28 MMcfd of gas.
The Anchor development lies in the Green Canyon area in water depths of about 5,000 ft (1,524 m). Anchor uses subsea high-pressure technology rated to 20,000 psi, with reservoir depths reaching 34,000 ft from the water surface. Total potentially recoverable resources are estimated to be up to 440 MMboe.
The Anchor FPU has been designed to minimize greenhouse gas emissions through an all-electric configuration, with electric motors and electronic controls, and the utilization of waste heat and vapor recovery technologies. The FPU utilizes waste heat and vapor recovery units as well as existing pipeline infrastructure to transport oil and natural gas directly to US Gulf Coast markets.
Chevron is operator at Anchor with 62.86% interest. TotalEnergies holds the remaining 37.14%.
