Oil and natural gas production in Brazil reached a record 4.698 MMboe/d in November 2023, surpassing the previous record of 4.666 MMboe/d set in September 2023.

According to information provided by the National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas, and Biofuels (ANP), oil extraction amounted to 3.678 million b/d, a 3.8% increase compared with the previous month (October 2023) and an 18.8% increase compared with November 2022.

Natural gas production reached 162.12 million cu m/d, a 6.3% increase compared with October 2023 and a 15.5% increase compared with November 2022.

For both oil and natural gas, the volumes extracted exceeded September 2023 records of 3.672 million b/d of oil and 157.99 million cu m/d were produced, respectively.

Origins

Total oil and natural gas production in the presalt during November was 3.585 MMboe/d—a 4.2% increase compared with October 2023 and a 20.9% increase year-over-year—and amounted to 76.3% of Brazilian production. November production of 2.825 million b/d of oil and 120.83 million cu m/d of natural gas was extracted through the drilling of 150 wells.

Offshore fields contributed 97.8% of the November oil produced and 85.2% of the natural gas. Fields operated by Petrobras, either independently or in consortium with other companies, were responsible for 88.77% of the total production. Production originated from 6,477 wells, 537 offshore and 5,940 onshore.

Tupi field, in Santos basin presalt, was the source of the most oil and gas produced in November 2023, registering about 887,000 b/d of oil and 43.87 million cu m/d of natural gas. The Guanabara FPSO in unitized Mero field processed the most oil and natural gas with about 179,516 b/d of oil and 11.63 million cu m/day of natural gas.
