Baytex production remains shut in as wildfire precaution measure

Baytex Energy Corp., Calgary, has shut-in about 20,000 boe/d of production from operations in the Peace River and Peavine regions of northwest Alberta since the morning of May 13 due to wildfires in the area.

Baytex Energy Corp., Calgary, has shut-in about 20,000 boe/d of production from operations in the Peace River and Peavine regions of northwest Alberta since the morning of May 13 due to wildfires in the area.

Additionally, in west-central Alberta, some 4,000 boe/d remains shut-in since the evening of May 5 due to shut-in of third-party infrastructure, the company said in an update May 15.

Baytex has been producing in the Peace River area since 1999. The heavy oil asset is developed primarily via cold-flow horizontal multi-lateral wells targeting the Bluesky and Clearwater formations. Production in this year’s first quarter was 24,500 boe/d.
