Springfield Group will test the Afina-1x well on West Cape Three Points Block 2 offshore Ghana (WCTP2) after signing a strategic alliance agreement and contract with Northern Ocean Ltd. for the Deepsea Bollsta drilling unit.

WCTP2 covers 673 sq km in the Tano-Western basin. Springfield performed 3D seismic in the basin and drilled the maiden Afina-1x well which more than doubled the company’s existing discoveries to over 1.5 billion bbl oil and 0.7 tcf of gas in place.

The strategic alliance includes mutual exclusivity to explore a long-term field development program in Ghana. The firm contract duration is for one well test estimated to require 30-35 days and will begin early in fourth-quarter 2024.

Springfield is operator and majority interest holder of WCTP2 with partners Ghana National Petroleum Corp. (GNPC) and its exploration company GNPC Explorco.
