Petrolera Aconcagua Energía SA has begun drilling its first 100%-owned well in the Confluencia Sur area in western Argentina.

Petrolera Aconcagua Energía SA (PAESA) has begun drilling its first 100%-owned well, SR.x-1001, in the Confluencia Sur area north of Neuquén basin in western Argentina.

With an estimated initial depth of 2,000 m to reach the Huitrín formation, the well is supported by a 3D simulation model and is part of a larger project that includes repairing producer and injector wells to improve the reservoir recovery factor.

A second drilling stage to deepen the well is planned, aimed at exploring deep horizons in Neuquén basin within the Mendoza Province. PAESA anticipates an initial investment of more than $4.5 million.

Initial activities will be carried out with the company’s A-301 drilling rig (acquired in 2023 and operational since August). The company is considering adding a second drilling rig to allow for increased activity in its operated basins.

“We are convinced that there are many opportunities to continue developing hydrocarbons in the provinces of Mendoza, Río Negro, and Neuquén,” said Diego Trabucco, group president and chief executive officer.
