Sept. 25, 2023
Tamboran is accelerating appraisal of the Beetaloo subbasin onshore Northern Territory, Australia, with spudding of the Amungee NW-3H horizontal well in exploration permit 98.

Tamboran (B2) Pty Ltd. is accelerating appraisal of the Beetaloo subbasin, one of the world’s largest undeveloped shale gas plays, onshore Northern Territory, Australia, with spudding of the Amungee NW-3H (A3H) horizontal well in exploration permit 98, partner Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. said in a release Sept. 25.

The A3H well is the second of the 2-well program in 2023 and will target the Amungee Member B-Shale at an estimated depth of 2,450 m TVD (total vertical depth). The well lies on the same well pad as the Amungee NW-2H well in the permit and is about 60 km north of the Shenandoah South 1H well (SS1H) on which drilling was completed last week (OGJ Online, Sept. 18, 2023).

Drilling activity is expected to take about 25 days, including a 1,000-m horizontal section. A stimulation program is planned for second-quarter 2024, following the end of the Northern Territory wet season, the company said.

Tamboran is operator of EP 98 with 38.75% interest. Partners are Daly Waters Energy LP (38.75%), an entity associated with Parsley Energy founder Bryan Sheffield, a significant shareholder in Tamboran, and Falcon Oil & Gas (22.5%).
