Shell begins drilling offshore Namibia
Shell Upstream Namibia BV, a subsidiary of Shell Plc, is advancing drilling offshore Namibia with delivery of Northern Ocean Ltd.’s Deepsea Bollsta semisubmersible drilling rig.
The rig contract, now commenced, has a firm duration of 12 months and an option to extend for 6 months. Odfjell Drilling AS prepared the rig for the contract and provides operations management during the contract’s term (OGJ Online, Aug. 25, 2022).
In February 2022, Shell discovered light oil in the primary and secondary targets of the Graff-1 deep-water exploration well offshore Namibia. The well proved a working petroleum system for light oil in Orange basin, 270 km off the coast of Oranjemund (OGJ Online Feb. 4, 2022). In April 2022, Shell made a second Orange basin discovery in the La Rona-1 prospect in PEL 0039, where the well confirmed hydrocarbon pay at multiple levels.
