The number of working oil-directed rigs in the US decreased by 2 units to 480 for the week. The count is down 24 units year-over-year. Gas-directed rigs increased by 2 units to 101, down 16 units year-over-year. Four rigs considered unclassified remained active during the week, unchanged from last week.

US land-based rigs rose by 2 to 568. Horizontal rigs decreased 2 units to 513. Directional drilling rigs increased by 1 to 54 for the week. The vertical rig count also increased by 1 unit to reach 18 this week. The number of rigs working offshore fell by 2 to leave 16 rigs working this week.

New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Ohio each saw their rig counts increase by a single unit this week to respective counts of 100, 43, and 10.

Louisiana dropped 2 rigs to leave 36 running for the week. The rig count in Pennsylvania fell by one unit to leave 12 rigs working.

Canada’s rig count fell by 1 rig to 216, but the count is up 20 units from this time a year-ago. The number of gas-directed rigs increased by 2 units to 66 while those drilling for oil decreased by 3 to end the week with 150 units working.
