Total drilling activity in North America dropped the week ended Apr. 26, with 731 rotary rigs working, reported Baker Hughes, Houston. That represents 117 fewer rigs working this week than the same time last year and 15 fewer than last week.
In the US, a total of 613 rigs were working, 6 fewer than last week, and 142 fewer than this time last year. Three fewer rigs were working in the Gulf of Mexico, leaving 15 rigs for the week. US onshore activity decreased by 3 rigs to 596 units working. Louisiana dropped 4 rigs to reach 36 rigs working for the week. New Mexico, Pennsylvania, and Colorado each dropped a single rig this week, leaving respective counts of 107, 21, and 14. Texas added a single rig to reach 297 rigs working for the week.
Canada had 118 rigs working this week, down 9 from the previous week, but up 25 from the year-ago period. Canada dropped 4 oil-directed rigs and 5 gas-directed rigs this week to land at counts of 56 and 62, respectively.
