Total drilling activity in North America dropped the week ended Dec. 15, with 808 rotary rigs working, reported Baker Hughes, Houston. That represents 167 fewer rigs working for the week than at the same time last year and 12 fewer than the week prior.
In the US, a total of 623 rigs were working, 3 fewer than the previous week, and 153 fewer than this time last year. Two fewer rigs 2 were working in the Gulf of Mexico, leaving 17 rigs for the week. US onshore activity decreased by 1 rig to 604 units working.
Oklahoma added 4 rigs to end the week with 42 working.
New Mexico, Louisiana, and Wyoming each dropped 2 rigs, ending the week at 100, 42, and 14 rigs working, respectively. North Dakota ended the week with one fewer rig, leaving 31 rigs online.
Canada had 185 rigs working for the week, down 9 from the previous week and down 14 from the year-ago period. Canada dropped 2 oil-directed rigs and 7 gas-directed rigs to land at counts of 118 and 67, respectively.
