Chariot Oil & Gas Ltd., London, has secured the Ocean Rig Poseidon drillship to drill on Petroleum Exploration License 71 offshore Namibia and expects spudding of the first well in the fourth quarter (OGJ Online, June 5, 2017).
The contract includes an optional second well.
The first well will be on a prospect designated “S,” which Chariot describes as one of five dip-closed structural traps identified in an Upper Cretaceous turbidite clastic fairway. Calibration of 6,100 sq km of 3D seismic data with the S well will help define two higher-risk stratigraphic traps on the license, Chariot said. Water depth is 1,650 m.
Chariot operates the block with a 65% interest. Partners are Azinam Ltd., 20%; state-owned NAMCOR, 10%; and Ignitus Oil & Gas, 5%.
