Russia’s OAO Lukoil has confirmed that Romanian law enforcement agencies have carried out a search and inspection of its subsidiary AO Petrotel-Lukoil’s offices at the company’s 2.4-million tonne/year refinery in Ploiesti, Romania, 55 km outside of Bucharest.
The search, which also involved Romanian tax authorities, took place on Oct. 2, Lukoil said.
Lukoil provided the agencies all of the refinery’s financial documents and electronic information resources that were requested, and no charges were brought against Lukoil or its employees, the company said.
“We are sure that the Romanian law-enforcement agencies will sort everything out and a fair decision will be taken, said Vladimir Nekrasov, first vice-president for Lukoil.
There have been no issues between Lukoil and Romania’s tax authorities or law enforcement agencies, and the refinery has paid all taxes owed to the state budget without fail since the company began operating in the country in 1998, Nekrasov added.
Production at the Ploesti refinery was not interrupted as a result of the search, and the plant continues to operate normally, Lukoil said.
