New oil recovery system for sunken tankers

Here's the JLMD System, which the company says enables a 70-90% reduction in the pollution caused by shipwrecked oil tankers.

It can be installed on any tanker, whether of recent or old construction, whether single or double walled hull. It works in all weather conditions no matter what position the ship lies in on the seabed.

The system enables immediate access to the tanks of a sunken ship and quick recovery of their contents; less than 1 week will be enough, once the extraction hoses are connected, the company says.

The system is installed at all four corners of the lateral compartment, at ship port and starboard.

Operation involves connecting the tanks of the sunken ship to those of the surface ship using an underwater robot, opening the valves, and letting the water get through the orifices located at the bottom of the sunken vessel's tanks under hydrostatic pressure.

The water pressure propels the fuel oil from the tanks of the sunken vessel up to the surface vessel.

The system can also be used for drawing off liquid cargoes without using motor-driven machinery and without risk of explosion, the firm notes.

New system analyzes aromatics in gasoline

A new system characterizes high concentrations of aromatics in gasoline using this firm's inert gas chromatography/ mass spectrometry (GC/MS) system.

Using an extended linearity ion source kit, the new system simplifies the standard American Society of Testing and Materials D5769 method by eliminating the additional steps that are usually required to obtain linear calibration of high-concentration sample components, the firm notes.

The new system consists of an Agilent 5973 inert GC/MS equipped with an optional extended linearity ion source kit.

The kit includes an EI source that is designed specifically for enhanced linearity, allowing specialists quickly and easily to obtain linear calibration curves for percent level components.

New tar sand release agent developed

ALDEROX TSR tar sands remover is a new release agent specifically formulated to reduce maintenance costs in oil sands operations.

The company says that test results proved that oil sands literally fell off vehicles when dried.

Equipment that is often washed every few days requires as much as 60% less labor than in the past, the company points out.

Savings on exhaust systems, transmissions, and undercarriage parts coated with ALDEROX are considerable, the firm says.

The firm's line of nonstick and cleaning products are nonhazardous, 100% biodegradable blends of all natural materials.

Software designed to help reduce rod, tubing wear

This firm's latest software program is designed to remove the guesswork associated with attempting to reduce rod and tubing wear.

Originally developed in 1991, the latest upgrade of the rod guide advisory software program (RGAP) version 4.0 uses rules developed through well monitoring and performance tracking to recommend rod guide design, material, spacing, and auxiliary equipment for beam and progressing cavity pump applications.

Well conditions, workover histories, and wellbore deviations are considered when recommending guides for a rod string.

The systems approach using RGAP:

  • Is applicable for rod guides used with beam or PC pumps.
  • Evaluates well data and workover history by trackable well or by lease.
  • Includes computer-generated deviation, side load, and rod guide wear logs.
  • Records rod guide measurements to determine wear rates and wear zones.
  • Offers recommendations for rod guide design, material, and spacing.
  • Includes quality assurance reports.
  • Is a resource for preventive maintenance programs.
  • Has 24 hr, 7 days a week accessibility.
  • Can be used for processing used rods.
  • Is a training tool for educational seminars.

RGAP software features plotting capabilities, including dynamic wellbore 3D graphing with failure mapping, and accurately recommends guides without a deviation survey, the company reports.
