It features a flexible, push-in design that allows one part size to fit and protect an array of flange sizes as well as other classifications of flanges. This also helps eliminate excess inventory, the firm points out.

The new flange protector is available in 16 sizes to fit nominal pipe sizes in a range of 3/8-16 in. Constructed of low-density polyethylene, flange protectors come in standard yellow.

Pressure vessel software updated

Newly released PVElite Version 2004 is an updated edition of the company's integrated vessel design and stress analysis software that incorporates the latest ASME 2003 Addenda for pressure vessels and the new European vessel code EN 13445 and adds direct, integrated graphic input for complete heat exchanger models and other enhancements.

In Version 2004, heat exchangers can now be graphically constructed from their individual components and submitted as a unit for pressure design or evaluation.

All the individual calculations for heat exchanger components previously available are now integrated to simplify modeling and reduce repetition.

The software analyzes required tube sheet thickness, flanged extension thickness as well as calculates tube and shell stresses and expansion joint stress.

By adding the EN 13445 code, PVElite now incorporates many requirements for the new European standard for vessel design just as it does with ASME Section VIII and PD 5500.

Among these are rules for thickness due to internal and external pressure, nozzle reinforcement, and conical section calculations.

PVElite Version 2004 also adds an updated materials database, integrates Appendix EE for half-pipe jackets and Appendix 14 for large central openings, and includes the Mexican wind code.

The new version also allows the user to add materials to the 5500/13445 materials database and to check for build updates automatically on the web, warning if the software version is out of date regarding codes and other additions.

Other improvements include an enhanced output processor, more flexible nozzle analyses functions, and the addition of the PD 5500 inquiry case for computing maximum forces and moment for nozzle connections.

System detects pipeline leaks as small as 0.04 gph

A patented leak-detection and location system promises to detect a pipeline leak as small as 0.04 gph and accurately locate the leak to within 10 ft of its location.

The protect and reclaim our water, land, and environmental resources (PROWLER) system currently focuses on existing and new pipelines that are transporting gas and hazardous liquids.

The system operates by the detection of vapors that migrate through the soil or other media from the leak source to the patented PROWLER sensor tube, which captures a sample of the vapors through diffusion.

The system can provide continuous monitoring of pipelines up to 10 miles in length with a single pump detector unit.

Among the system's features are its capability to operate in the presence of water (e.g., areas where the water table is high), its ability to detect small leaks, and the ability to analyze the background environment.
