Cogent Midstream lets contract for Midland basin gas plant

Cogent Midstream LLC, Dallas, has let a contract to Honeywell UOP LLC for the previously announced expansion of natural gas processing capacity in the lower Midland basin of West Texas that will add a refrigerated cryogenic processing plant at the same location as its existing Big Lake gas plant in Reagan County, Tex. As part of the contract, Honeywell UOP will provide a proprietary UOP Russell 200-MMcfd gas processing plant to extract NGLs from natural gas produced from several counties in the Wolfcamp formation of the Permian basin in Texas, the service provider said.
Honeywell UOP’s scope of work on the project will include design and supply of the UOP Russell modular cryogenic plant with refrigeration and dehydration units.
The new plant, which is scheduled to be completed in late 2019 and will be designed to accommodate NGL-rich gas in the Wolfcamp formation, will increase Cogent’s processing capacity at Big Lake to 400 MMcfd, the service provider said.
Upon announcing the project in August, Cogent—which operates the largest private greenfield gathering and processing system in the Southern Midland basin, including about 650 miles of pipeline and three active processing plants serving Coke, Crockett, Glasscock, Irion, Mitchell, Reagan, Schleicher, Sterling and Tom Green, Tex., counties—said the new Big Lake II plant, once in operation, will expand its total gas processing capacity in the region to 510 MMcfd.
Backed by growth capital commitments from EnCap Flatrock Midstream, Cogent operates Midland basin assets formerly held by Lucid Energy Group I LLC (OGJ Online, May 21, 2014).
