Guide to World Crudes: TotalEnergies issues assay for Brazilian Atapu
In July 2021, TotalEnergies SE published an assay dated Apr. 27, 2021, for Atapu crude oil, produced from the Iara cluster in the eastern portion of Brazil’s deepwater Santos basin presalt.
Operator Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) began producing crude oil and natural gas in June 2020 from its P-70 floating production, storage, and offloading vessel (FPSO) stationed in Atapu field (OGJ Online, June 26, 2020).
In 2,300 m of water about 200 km off Rio de Janeiro state, the P-70 FPSO reached its full oil production capacity of 150,000 b/d in July 2021 producing from only four of its eight planned production wells, Petrobras said in a July 23, 2021, release.
Built by China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) subsidiary CNOOC Engineering Co. Ltd. and measuring 300-m long by 74-m wide, the P-70 FPSO is also equipped to process 6 million cu m/day of gas.
In addition to Petrobras (89.257%), partners with rights to Atapu deposits include Shell Brasil Petróleo Ltd. (4.258%), TotalEnergies EP Brasil Ltd. (3.832%), Petrogal Brasil SA (1.703%) and Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (0.950%).
