TC Energy anticipates May in-service for Southeast Gateway pipeline
TC Energy Corp., Calgary, reached mechanical completion of the 715-km, 1.3 bcfd Southeast Gateway pipeline project on Jan. 20, 2025, and anticipates a May 1, 2025 in-service date (OGJ Online Aug. 8, 2022).
TC Energy noted the milestone and other operational updates as part of its fourth-quarter 2024 report.
Mexico
The company is currently working with Mexico’s state-owned Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) to finalize the remaining Southeast Gateway project completion activities.
“Reaching mechanical completion 13% under budget on the Southeast Gateway pipeline project is a monumental milestone for the company and for Mexico, and a testament to our unwavering focus on project execution,” said François Poirier, president and chief executive officer.
The final cost of the project is $3.9 billion compared with the original cost estimate of $4.5 billion.
The natural gas pipeline will serve southeast Mexico, starting onshore in Tuxpan, Veracruz, then proceeding offshore, making landfall at Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, and in Paraíso, Tabasco. The project is expected to be in-service by mid-2025 at an estimated cost of $4.5 billion.
Canada
The company also placed into service its $100-million Gas Transmission Northwest (GTN) Xpress expansion project into service in December 2024. The 150-MMcfd project provides expanded service from GTN’s Kingsgate meter station at Idaho’s border with British Columbia, Canada, to its Malin meter station in Klamath County, Ore. (OGJ Online, Apr. 19, 2024).
The 2.7-bcfd GTN Xpress delivers Canadian-sourced natural gas from Washington through Idaho and Oregon to northern California.
In November 2024, Coastal GasLink LP executed a commercial agreement with LNG Canada (LNGC) and LNGC Participants that declared commercial in-service for the 2.1-bcfd natural gas pipeline in Western Canada, the company said. The 670 k, 48-in. OD pipeline was mechanically complete in November 2023 (OGJ Online, June 5, 2012).
The pipeline will supply gas sourced from Montney, Horn River, and Cordova basins and elsewhere in the Western Canada Sedimentary basin to the 14-million tonne/year LNG Canada liquefaction plant under development in Kitimat, BC. Start up and commissioning activities are under way at the LNG plant and first cargoes are expected to be delivered by mid-2025.
