Sapura Energy Bhd. subcontractor Rotech Subsea Ltd. has completed burial of a 16-km, 8-in. OD natural gas pipeline for Sapura offshore Trinidad & Tobago.
Rotech completed the work in 7 days using its TRS1 controlled-flow excavation spread at water depths of 17-27 m in loose sand and soft clay. TRS1 buried the gas pipeline linking a well and platform to a minimum depth of 0.5 m and a typical depth of 0.8-0.9 m.
Deployed by vessel-crawler crane, two pneumatic tugger winches positioned forward and aft of an anchor barge guided the suspended jet-trenching tool along the pipeline route. Rotech provided the winches, fairleads, and compressor to power both winches, which were tested to 5 tonnes once securely sea fastened.
