Eni SPA has launched the hull of its 2.4-million tonne/year (tpy) Nguya floating LNG (FLNG) plant at Wison shipyard in Nantong, China. Nguya FLNG will complement the existing 600,000-tpy Tango FLNG, operational since December 2023, bringing Congo LNG’s total liquefaction to 3 million tpy by end 2025.
Nguya FLNG is 80% complete, with overall Phase 2 timing—from FLNG contract award to startup—expected to be less than 3 years.
Eni says that Nguya FLNG will have a reduced carbon footprint due to its design and technology, and to its zero-flaring approach, in line with the company’s decarbonization strategy.
Natural gas for Congo LNG will be supplied by Eni’s Marine XII 1.3-billion boe proven and probable reserves concession (65%), 20 km offshore Congo (OGJ Online, Oct. 24, 2023).
Congo LNG is a joint venture of Eni, the Congolese National Oil Co., and TotalEnergies SE.
